... (Radio.com) With their cover of Whitney Houston
's "It's Not Right, But It's Okay," CHVRCHES give the diva's 1999 hit an electro makeover. The Scottish's band's cover for BBC Radio One, highlights the song's cha-cha beat with a bevy of synths and spacey bleeps. Singer Lauren Mayberry channels Whitney's sassy attitude, letting this guy know, "Close the door behind you/ Leave your key/ I'd rather be alone, than unhappy." The band sticks with this same synthy vibe on their pop song filled debut The Bones Of What You Believe, out this week. The band is currently touring on tour in Europe, but head back to the States later this fall, kicking things off in Los Angeles on November 17. ... Tweet Last night on Zane Lowe, CHVRCHES' covered Whitney Houston
's classic hit "It's Not Right But It's Okay." The band seems comfortable covering songs most folks wouldn't think about touching, like Prince's "I Would Die 4 U" or the Game of Thrones theme. Though this cover lacks the vengeful bite of Whitney's original, Mayberry's raw vocals next to the synths give the song a heartbreaking quality that wasn't there before. Enjoy the song below, and if you don't enjoy it, at least it'll inspire you to play the original. You'll be hard-pressed to find a better way to start your Friday.
