Artistfacts:
The band is named after a deadly bacteria. Ian got the idea when he learned about anthrax in Biology class.
All the members are native New Yorkers except Bush, who is from Los Angeles.
The band was signed by Johnny and Marsha Zazula of Megaforce Records after they literally followed them around the city.
They have been surprisingly socially conscious for a metal band.
They helped define '80s metal (anger, speed) with Metallica and Megadeath.
Bush had previously sung with Armored Saint.
Ian writes most of the songs.
When a wave of anthrax scares hit the US in 2001, they considered changing their name to something more friendly (someone suggested "Basket Of Puppies"), but decided not to because they hoped the scare would pass.
Spitz's brother David played bass for Black Sabbath in the mid-1980's.
They were featured on an episode of Married With Children. (thanks, Lynn - Indianapolis, IN)

Comments:
That thing about changing their name was only a joke. Also, the alleged name was Basket FULL Of Puppies.

There's a guy in my area whose pickup truck's license plate says "ANTHRAX". It's his favorite band, but in the past 5 years (today is 12/15/06), he's been pulled over many times because the cops were suspicious.
- Sarah, Quincy, IL
Frank Bello has now joined Helmet for their reunion album
- Scott Evans, Bradford, Finland
