Conley admires spiritual works, like the Tao Te Ching and the Vedas. He also admires fruit, like apples and pears.
The group has shied away from major labels, and is signed to Vagrant Records. They have toured for years, preferring to garner success through punk rock's old Do-It-Yourself method.
As an independent band, they sold an astonishing 120,000 copies of their third album, Stay What You Are.
Their "big" break came when they got the opening slot on the 2001-2002 Weezer tour. This has given them the chance to play arenas for the first time.
In March 2000, their van crashed while touring. Everyone was injured, but they all recovered. It simply brought them closer as a group of friends, not just a band.
Conley: "I'm more a distributor of love than hate."
Alexander began as a roadie for the band on their first tour, and slowly worked his way into the band.
Influences include: Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Police, the Smiths, and New Jersey punk band Lifetime. Saves the Day is also from New Jersey.
