Artistfacts:
She was born in Melbourne Australia, of Welsh ancestry.
A highly successful TV actress during her teens, she was signed to a recording contract after being spotted performing "The Locomotion" in a pub with the cast of her TV show after an awards presentation. Her cover of "The Locomotion" topped the Australian charts for 7 weeks, resulting in a UK record deal. Song went on to reach number 2 in UK and number 3 in US.
In 1988, she became the youngest female to top the UK album charts when her self-titled album went to #1.
Kylie is the only performer to place her first 13 singles in the UK top 10.
She is one of only two women to top the UK charts during the 80s, 90s and 00s. The other is Madonna.
Kylie has always emulated Madonna. Madonna repaid the compliment by wearing a Kylie Minogue T-shirt when she performed "Music" during the MTV Europe award show in 2001.
She played a cameo as the Green Fairy in the movie "Moulin Rouge". She also recorded a cover version of Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" for the film but it was cut by director Baz Luhrmann. (thanks, Ross - Brisbane, Australia, for all above)
In May, 2005, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After undergoing surgery doctors expect she will make a recovery. (thanks, Marielle - Brisbane, Australia)
She was nominated for her first Grammy - Dance for "Slow" - in 2004. She was beaten by Britney Spears, who won for "Toxic," a song she picked up after Ms. Minogue rejected it for her album. (thanks, Jo - Newcastle, Australia)
