| He was born Lesane Parish Crooks in Brooklyn, New York. Tupac (the name given to him by Black Panthers) means "Shining Serpent" and his last name Shakur means "Thankful," both in Arabic. |
| Tupac was not involved in rap until he moved to Baltimore, Maryland were he attended The Baltimore School For Performing Arts. There he took the name MC New York. |
| Tupac started writing poems and began writing lyrics. He quit school in 1988 when he moved to Marin City, California near the Oakland area. There Tupac learned about street life and began to sell drugs. In Marin City, he joined a gang and became friends with Shock G, a leading underground Rapper. In November of 1991, Tupac released his first album 2Pacalypse. |
| After many successful albums Tupac was asked to attend a Mike Tyson fight on September 7, 1996 in Las Vegas. After the fight (which Tyson won), Tupac and Marion "Suge" Knight (owner of Death Row records) were cruising on the Las Vegas strip when Tupac was shot 5 times in a drive by shooting. Six days later he was taken off life support and pronounced dead. |

| On November 18, 1993, he was arrested for sexually abusing a 19-year-old woman who he met in a New York nightclub, and allegedly sodomized and sexually abused with 3 of his friends. In 1995, Tupac was sentenced to prison for up to four and a half years, but received an early release after a few months.
